Remembering Eden

The Wolf Cries

Remembering Eden

The

Eagle soars

With somber eyes

The Wolf watches

And cries

The winds find her voice

Lifts it from the shadowy forest

On warm, pine scented breezes

Far above despair

She listens

No reply.

The Owl

and Buffalo join her

Sending their voices on high

Together they wait - listening

In the strange quiet

Still

No reply.

The Deer

and Fox soon join them

Their voices spiraling up and up

Carried by heather scented winds

Unseen

To places they once roamed

Freely

Forgotten days

Silenced

No

Reply.

The air

Grows quiet

As the ground hardens

Winter's chill is upon them now

The rivers and valleys

Seem vague

Not friendly

So

Still.

Separately

They take their leave - pausing

Looking back as if to say

Will we see you tomorrow

How many winters

How many springs

How many falls

Will summer bring?
