Packs a walloping punch! November 13, 2013

Whew, what a ride! In telling the story of Stephen, Katherine, and Ryan, this book takes you from the pinnacle of hope to the pit of despair, over and over again. Like the vampire's bite, it alternately scares you and thrills you, and in the end, you keep coming back for more. It's not often that the preface of a book is so believably written that it makes you wonder if you should turn the page for fear of not coming back. The writing consists of soaring, stream of conscience prose combined with in-your-face colloquialisms, so that you wander between the minds of the characters and the reality of what is happening in the outside world. We are able to witness the transformation of each character and the resulting confusion and sometimes terror as they come to grips with what is happening to them and to those around them. This is not the typical vampire story, but an examination of hypotheticals and consequences about what might happen in our futures, within the context of the vampire culture. Life is interchanged with death, and the beginning is mixed with the end, so that you are kept on the edge of your seat, not knowing what to expect when you turn the page.

It is clear that this book is the result of a lot of thought and passion for the subject. This is not just a novel - this is a life's work put to paper. The sheer length of the book alone and the time you will spend thinking about each event that happens in it separates this work from other purely commercial books. It is well worth the purchase!Show Less

Wow, haunting, chilling and wild! November 12, 2013

Wow. Get ready for your mind to be blown. I dare you to be able to put down this pageturner after you read the words "Phoenix is risen." Because by then you'll have met intriguing characters, some of whom seem to be going through wretched and dangerous transformations, and you'll be completely drawn in to the paranormal and horrifying world that is unfolding.

With great dialogue that brings the characters to life, Murray unfolds, taunts and seduces much like the gods at the center of her work. She plays with readers in doling out information and creating cliffhanger after cliffhanger--and it's really rewarding. Finally, a writer who knows what it means to be a storyteller, to keep readers drawn in with a combination of mystery, action and writing that is engaging and makes you care about what is going on. The writing is also haunting, at times lyrical (like when describing the longing and passion of the vampire Phoenix) and at times gripping (like when taking us along on Katherine's travails.)

If you've read Chariots of the Gods? or similar work, you might be somewhat prepared for this exploration, but even so Murray takes these theories to new heights. What if the ancient blood-lusting Sumerian myths are true, and what if humans were meant to be their slaves, but we ended up becoming their obsession and playthings because of the way we began worshipping them as gods? What if their next reign of terror were about to begin?

I loved a lot about this book. I loved the pacing. The passionate bloodthirsty scenes were awesomely portrayed, just tantalizing. The relationship between Ryan and Cross was incredibly well done. The plotting was excellent, highly skilled. Not all authors can move from scene to scene, point of view to point of view, so smoothly.

If it's anything like this novel, I'm not ready! Because Murray's world is terrifying in it's unpredictability. No one is safe. Convert or death are the only options. It's also chillingly believable. It's fantastic to find a writer who goes all in, who sinks her fangs in deep like Rice or the like backed by great intelligence. This is a find of a book, and I'm so glad it's a trilogy because that means more is ahead. But as Phoenix says, "waiting is the hardest of all life's tasks."Show Less

A Very Captivating Read! November 11, 2013

Within just a few pages of reading "BLOODED [Anunnaki Rising]" I was swept up in this amazingly vivid and captivating tale that mixes mythology with reality, fantasy with supernatural and talented storytelling with a truly imaginative plot. Lyn Murray weaves a fantastical story about elusive, seductive and deadly creatures that to humans are little more than a legend, but that pose a real threat and a driving mystery that has far reaching dangers and possibilities that have just begun to unfold. The plot is richly steeped in ancient mythos of vampires, immortals and gods, using the tales and mysteries that have captivated humans for eons to build a driving story that sucks you in from the very first page and leaves you thirsting for more at the end of the first novel in the series.

The writing is elegant, descriptive, wondrously rich in detail and backstories, pulls you along with teasing glimpses into the larger plot of The Blooded Saga series, and overall leaves you utterly transfixed in this mystical world of blood, death, mysticism, violence, seduction and intrigue that certainly doesn't disappoint. I found myself pulled into the writing, eagerly flipping from page to page with bated breath, waiting to see what was going to happen next, how this wonderfully written novel would move along. It was a great start to the series and thoroughly captivated and entertained me to the very end. I'm really eager to see what else the author has in store for The Blooded Saga and will be anxiously waiting for the next book in the series!Show Less

Excellent Paranormal Mystery October 26, 2013

This was an interesting short story packed with plot twists and turns worthy of Jessica Fletcher. The paranormal aspect to the mystery was intriguing and provided a nice additional dimension.

Quite Creepy October 26, 2013

This was another nice short story by the author. The chatty feel to the story makes it feel like you are sitting across from the narrator as she tells you her story.

This quite creepy story will have you thinking twice before opening the door to a stranger again!

If you're looking for a creepy short story this is a very good choice and I certainly recommend it.

Interesting Supernatural Story October 26, 2013

This interesting short story was another entertaining read from a talented author.

The nicely written story had a decidedly supernatural that makes for perfect reading while in a cozy spot after dark.

The folksy, down home feel to the story was interesting and increased the decidedly disturbing nature of the tale.

I certainly recommend this quality read.

Spine Tingling Tale October 26, 2013

I've read several of the author's short stories and have been quite pleased by their quiet creepiness. This latest read was no different.

This deceptively simple short story about an abandoned house quickly becomes something much more sinister and draws the reader right in.

The intriguing story is well written and provides a perfect, fast read for those looking for a spine tingling tale. I highly recommend this.Show Less

Delightfully Mysterious October 26, 2013

As the days grow cooler and it gets closer to Halloween one almost automatically finds oneself drawn to ghost stories. This short story proved to be a delightfully mysterious read for the season.

The idea of a mysterious, supernatural cemetery was intriguing and really quite disturbing if one takes the time to ponder it.

This well written story is the perfect accompaniment to a mug of mulled cider on a chilly autumn night. I highly recommend it!Show Less

Disappointed October 9, 2013

I was expecting this to be a full length book. Instead, it is a brief essay about the author's personal BEK experience. I finished reading it in about 10 minutes. Definitely not worth the 99 cents I paid for it.
